Aguila GC
The Aquila Golf Course facility offers two golf courses; one is a championship length course while the other is a par-3, nine-hole course. The championship course provides an excellent game of golf for an affordable price. There are scenic views of mountains and downtown Phoenix as well as a challenging layout featuring several water hazards and bunkers. Although the terrain is rather hilly, it is still relatively walkable. The course has an excellent range of holes that each have a unique character, the par 5’s are especially notable. Native grasses and wildflowers are also present on Aquila’s Championship course, further adding to its natural beauty.

On a windy day at Aguila, Al Dan and myself (Harley Ewing) were dueling it out for 1st place. I don’t usually duel anyone on a golf course, but I was playing well for some reason today. I figured I was leading Al by 1 stroke entering the 18th hole. At that point we didn’t know we were playing to win the event. Al parred it and I doubled, mashing my second shot in the rough desert. Scrambled to get it back in and 3 putted. Ends up, Al took 1st with a 64 net and I took 2nd at 65 net. Jim Bays got 3rd with a 66 net. In our group more drama was unfolding as Tony Dalton and John “Cheese” Pierce battled each other with John finally subduing the “POTVGA” in the final holes. John will go on to match up with Neal Fisel for the President’s Cup crown final. Next VGA Event, Saturday May 7 2016 GCU w/city card 8:00 AM $ 45.00. If you still haven’t played it, it’s a great redo of an old Maryvale venue.
