Wednesday, June 7, 2017 / Whirlwind Devils Claw course.

Built into the ancient, native landscape is 36 holes of championship golf designed by renowned architect Gary Panks. A true test of golf, the Cattail and Devil’s Claw courses truly are desert golf, evolved. Staffed with talented and devoted professionals, Whirlwind Golf Club has become one of the premier golf facilities in the Southwest. A round at Whirlwind is quiet, peaceful and feels like a destination golf club, yet it is only 11 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Experience for yourself the best golf and dining experience in the south Valley.

Summer is rapidly heating up and Whirlwind’s Devils Claw course is surrounded by some pretty hot desert. The course was very Troon like and mostly perfect in every way. A cool breeze kept us all from sweating too much. Surprise Neal Fisel went from being a Monkey’s butt in Green Valley to a very excellent 61 net today to take first place. Well done Neal, well done indeed. Hey, who is this Chuck Quigg guy. Well  he’s in second place with a nice 65 net. Also well done Chuck. Back from a European vacation and ready to get going again. Steve Richter gets third at 66 net. Welcome home Steve. Tony Judd accepts the Atta-a-Boy at 67 net. Rest of the field’s scores below.  Next up for VGA, Saturday, June 10, 2017 Palm Valley 7:00 AM $ 30.

Palm Valley Golf Club has two distinct 18-hole layouts, superb conditions, and complete practice and dining facilities make it a true gem of the West Valley and a must play destination for those visiting the Phoenix area. It’s a supreme challenge for the low handicap golfer yet forgiving for someone who wants an enjoyable experience regardless of the score. The Arthur Hills-designed Palms Course, a par-72 layout that covers 7,015 yards from the back tees, features one of the finest closing holes in the region — the par 5 18th with a lake on the left side of the fairway that wraps around a three-tiered green. The par-62 Lakes Course, designed by Hale Irwin, offers a shorter, quicker round of golf although no less of a challenge. The Lakes Course winds through the desert with many of its greens guarded by water. Palm Valley features a well-appointed golf shop, practice facility and the Fairway Grille, a full service bar and restaurant with several big-screen TVs plus a spacious patio offering spectacular views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. Palm Valley also is home of the Waterfront Pavilion, a popular venue for weddings, banquets and special events. Less than 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix, Palm Valley Golf Club is located in the heart of the West Valley’s top sports and entertainment venues at 2211 N Litchfield Rd, Goodyear, AZ 85395 — just minutes from University of Phoenix Stadium, Jobing.com Arena, Camelback Ranch (spring training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox), Goodyear Ballpark (spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians) and Phoenix International Raceway.
