Southern Dunes can be rewarding and it can be frustrating. One thing I know for sure is if you don’t stay on the course you’re going to have a very difficult time. I may have lost a dozen golf balls today (lost track). Not fun. Started well with a Bird on number 2 and went to the next hole and pulled three new Calaways into the weeds I couldn’t find. I went down hill from there. Xed out on 15. Apologies to Bob Watson my 2,2&2 partner for leaving him stranded but I wasn’t into anymore self abuse. But so much for my day. My cart partner on the other hand was playing the best game of his recent history. Considering his age he has lots of past history.  Nothing puts a smile on Uncle G’s face like deflating his playing partners wallets. When he was finished with us he went on to take the whole tournament with an amazing 63 net tie with Rich Golz. He topped himself with a 41 on the back nine to win 1st place on the scorecard playoff system. Because he never makes birdies  and other reasons, he never enters the birdie pool. To bad, he birdied twice today on 12 and 13 holes. Over all not  bad for the aged Dean of VGA. Rich Golz took 2nd place of course and John Euler got third place. Congratulations to both of them. Atta-a-Boy goes to our best gross score player, Doug Patterson. Doug had a nice 77 gross today. Need to work on the sandbagging Doug. Next up for VGA on Saturday TPC Champions course. Rest of the field’s scores below.

Next up for VGA, Saturday, July 29, 2017 TPC Champions (+) 7:30:00 AM $51.00.

Rivaling its famous sister course in both beauty and playability, the Randy Heckenkemper-designed Champions Course offers an ideal desert golf experience. Built on the former site of TPC Scottsdale’s Desert Course, the layout was completely revamped in 2007 to flow seamlessly within the naturally rugged terrain, meandering between natural ravines and through picturesque foothills. The course was crafted to balance strategy with design, so as not to favor any one type of play. Each hole can be played a multitude of ways – providing golfers of all skill levels with a challenging experience that can be significantly different each time they play. A quartet of challenging finishing holes adds an acclaimed ending stretch that promises to leave even the best players with goose bumps.
