Saturday, July 23rd, 2016-TPC/Champions course

Rivaling its famous sister course in both beauty and playability, the Randy Heckenkemper-designed Champions Course offers an ideal desert golf experience. Built on the former site of TPC Scottsdale’s Desert Course, the layout was completely revamped in 2007 to flow seamlessly within the naturally rugged terrain, meandering between natural ravines and through picturesque foothills. The course was crafted to balance strategy with design, so as not to favor any one type of play. Each hole can be played a multitude of ways – providing golfers of all skill levels with a challenging experience that can be significantly different each time they play. A quartet of challenging finishing holes adds an acclaimed ending stretch that promises to leave even the best players with goose bumps.

A 7:30 am shotgun start should have helped beat the heat at least a little today. Coming in first today, Scott Sheets with a real good 63 net. Second place to Ron Amstutz playing very hot lately at 65 net just 2 strokes off the pace. Third place to Ollie Wentzel at 66 net. Playing well lately Ollie, eh? One odd little note, but Steve Richter had 4 birds for the day most of any player and if I’m reading this correctly they were all good birdies. Nice work Steve, I bet getting close to the cup had something to do with it. I know I’ve seen him do it. Nice work. Four players tied at 67 net and five players tied at 70 net. Interesting indeed.  All the scores below:
